What's in Season August
August is a month of bounty, with all the main crop veg in full swing and mushrooms peaking in to keep things interesting. Plus the first apples are back - hooray! These early birds can be a bit tart so if they are then give them a bit of heat to bring them down a bit. Great in a pie, tart or even just baked on their own with spices and cream.
We're still very much in med range here so make the most of the tasty tomatoes and cook simple pasta sauces, the tart baking can wait till the weekend, to be eaten cold when the mood takes you.
