This is a gorgeously easy, frugal and tasty supper from that master of unpretentious real food, Nigel Slater (Appetite). Just potato, bacon and stock with a generous hand of sage to bring a delightful herby savour. It takes just a few minutes to put together and uses only half a packet of bacon/pancetta, so you can keep the rest for another supper later in the week.

Not so much a recipe as a bit of inspiration to use up those bits and pieces in the fridge, you'll have a tasty lunch and an easy conscience.

This recipe is a colourful delight on the plate and a salty medley of gorgeousness in the mouth. A Nigel Slater recipe from the paper, thanks Nigel!

This smoothie has no added sugar, 1.5 of you 5 a day and a good dose of your fibre - not to mention slow release energy and the goodness of milk. Great for kids big and small.

Ok, it sounds like a risk, but this is a wonderful moist chocolate cake which is great for using up courgettes at the end of that glut and when you have run out of courgette recipes.

This is a recipe for an alternative way of cooking your root veg. Crispy chunks of parsnip and potatoes etc. with rosemary and garlic. It's kid friendly but strong flavoured. Good for getting them used to a common but strong herb.

This is a realy quick and easy pasta sauce. The tomato sauce is big and sweet, garlicky with just the hint of warmth from the chilli. It’s a great base to add to.
