Spinazie Stamppot met Worst
Created by germainelangendijk, Sunday, 13 September 2009
This (Spinach and potato hotpot with sausages) is a classic and simple Dutch dish which keeps me warm on a chilly winter evening. It's ready in 30 minutes and can easily be saved for later. Excellent when served with a nice deep red wine.

Serves
3-4
  • 2kg potatoes (peeled)
  • 25-50gr butter
  • 50ml milk
  • 1 packet of frozen spinach (chopped preferably) or 1kg of alternative choice of vegetables (carrots or curly kale make good stamppot dishes)
  • 1 tablespoon of wholegrain mustard
  • salt & pepper
  • Bratwurst or Unox Rookworst (smoked sausage)
Method/steps
  1. Boil the potatoes for 20-25 minutes. In a separate pan heat up and cook the spinach, might need to add a little water to keep it from burning at the bottom. Drain water from potatoes, begin mashing whilst adding some of the butter and milk to make the mash smoother and richer. Drain the spinach (if necessary) and add to mash, mixing content and the wholegrain mustard.
  2. In a frying pan cook the Bratwurst in butter. If using a smoked sausage, simply boil or microwave as indicated on the packaging. Then, serve the sausage on top of the spinach and potato mash mixture with a dollop of mustard on the side of the plate. Enjoy this classic Dutch dish!
Additional tips
This dish can be prepared in advance and kept warm in the oven, and leftovers can easily be reheated from frozen or fridge.
